Health Minister said it is a possibility woman died from COVID-19, although not confirmed

A suspected COVID-19 patient died last night at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Minister of Health Duane Sands confirmed the death outside of Cabinet on Tuesday, stating that the woman’s symptoms were consistent with the disease and she had a recent travel history that could suggest she was positive for the virus.

Sands said although it is not known why the woman died, he said health officials are treating this as a “suspect” case.

Reports circulated social media stating that the woman was from Bimini, known to be asthmatic and was experiencing difficulty breathing. She was transported on an emergency flight but succumbed in hospital.

Sands said a test done in the next 24 to 48 hours will reveal the woman’s exact cause of death.
