Piercing screams filled the air after the discovery of a body in Grand Bahamas that police said was burnt beyond recognition.

A woman cried relentless on the scene crying, “Jesus” as police worked to determine the individual found in a Japanese model vehicle in bushes off the Grand Bahama Highway, near Jack Hayward bridge.

Authorities received reports around 8 am that a vehicle was in bushes in the area. Police said they did not have an exact location but dispatched vehicles to search the area. They then discovered the car burnt with a body inside.

The gender of the victim remains undetermined but police said they are looking onto their database of missing persons to determine the victim’s identity.

“We are in the early stages of the investigations. Just last week, a young man was reported missing. We don’t know if this is him. We can’t identify if this is male or female. So we will be talking with family members of that young man and possibly other family members of missing persons, recently,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles said on the scene.

Police are asking if you have information to assist them in identifying the victim.
