The death of 17-year-old Lavard McKenzie sent a shockwave through the Carmichael Road community on Sunday afternoon.

Family and friends were stunned at the discovery of his body after he went missing last week Thursday.

Father, Lavard Mckenzie Sr described his son as a special blessing and lamented that the people responsible will be held to account.

“Lavard McKenzie was my greatest blessing and they took him from me. They will pay and their family,” he said.

Lavard was a student of Carlton E. Francis Primary School and C.V Bethel Senior High School.

His body was discovered around 4 pm through a winding, narrow track road, through bushes off Millar’s Heights, London Avenue.

Neighbors recall smelling a strong odor in the area, as family members canvassed the area in search of Lavard.

After the discovery was made just one corner away from where he lived, cries echoed the Carmichael Road area.

Distraught family members congregated near the scene, and were heard saying, “Why you’ll bring grammy? I told you’ll not to bring her.”

Searchers said the body sustained an injury to the head.

An infuriated family member posted to Facebook, questioning why the suspects killed Lavard.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force issued a missing person flyer on Friday after Lavard never returned home.
