Board of Trustees acknowledges Dr. Smith’s possible departure from UB

The University of the Bahamas said it will establish a presidential search committee to select a new president, after it was revealed that President Dr. Rodney Smith was seeking employment at the West Virginia State University.

UB’s Board of Trustees issued a statement saying Smith, “may possibly leave the university before the expiration of his contract if he is offered a position and accepts the offer.”

The board said it will establish and convene a Presidential Search Committee to lead the process of selecting a new president, and will advise the university on the search process involving stakeholder representatives and timelines in short order.

Smith, whose post at UB was extended in 2017, to a five year contract, and expires in 2022, was one of three finalists selected to be WVSU’s 12th president.

The statement continues, “President Smith has given his assurance that he remains committed to fulfilling his mandate at UB and to ensuring a smooth transition in leadership when the time comes.”
