Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis said more than 10, uninvited guests, are showing up at funerals

COVID-19 Task Force Coordinator and Advisor to the Prime Minister, Merceline Dahl-Regis said uninvited guests are showing up at funerals.

“We have received reports that family members and friends, not a part of the invitation list, have presented themselves to witness the ceremony,” she said.

The emergency order implemented by Prime Minister Hubert Minnis, allows only 10 individuals to attend funerals and weddings to prevent spread of the coronavirus.

Dr. Dahl-Regis said due to many people not adhering to the measures, law enforcement officers are posted at cemeteries to enforce the rule.

“Respect the physical distancing principle and respect the funeral invitation list, please,” she implored.

Dr. Dahl-Regis added that family members should avoid kissing and touching the bodies of loved ones prepared for burial, while adults over the age of 60 and individuals with underlying illnesses should not directly interact with the corpse.

She added that funeral directors too, must follow protocols to remain safe as they prepare bodies, by wearing PPEs, discontinuing the method of embalming to reduce contact with bodies and wearing gloves when placing bodies in graves.
