Five people rescued after sailboat sinks en route to the Bahamas
Five people were rescued after their sailboat sank hundreds of miles off the coast of North Carolina while they were enroute to the Bahamas, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred on Friday, Nov. 7, approximately 260 nautical miles offshore Cape Hatteras, according to a U.S. Coast Guard news release.
The victims, from Connecticut and Rhode Island, were aboard the sailboat Magic Bus when it began taking on water. Coast Guard officials said the crew abandoned ship into a life raft, but did not disclose what caused the vessel to sink.

Rescue efforts were swiftly launched. The Cutter Angela McShan, an Air Station Elizabeth City HC-130 Hercules aircraft, and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew responded to the emergency.
“The HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew located the life raft with all five people aboard, established communications, and confirmed everyone was stable and in good condition,” the Coast Guard said.
The Jayhawk helicopter crew safely recovered the sailors from the life raft and transported them to the Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, following a refueling stop at the USS George H.W. Bush. All five were reported to be in good health.
