Opposition Chairman says the prime minister has not provided scientific proof to support emergency order

PLP Chairman Fred Mitchell hits back at said the latest statements by the FNM Chairman Carl Culmer, calling it, “a sick sad joke.”

“The joke is so sad, the whole country is crying,” Mithcell said.

Culmer, on Sunday, criticized PLP Leader Philip Davis for using the deadly virus as political opportunity,” and defended Prime Minister Hubert Minnis’’ handling of the virus.

Michell said, “To this day the Prime Minister, the self proclaimed Competent Authority, has failed to provide scientific evidence to support the continued imposition and infringement on the civil liberties of Bahamians and for his contradictory orders.”

“Our people people believe that their rights are being infringed upon unjustifiably and have taken to social media and the streets to voice their discontent,” he said.

Mitchell said the Minnis administration has failed to “implement a ‘wise’ plan of action to reopen the economy while protecting the health and safety of frontline workers.”

The PLP said it continue to advocate for testing, which he said his party believes is an effective way to fight and contain the spread of COVID-19.

“The government has not listened,” Mitchell said.

He said the borders are open, there is a reported spike in positive COVID-19 cases in Grand Bahama, and the government has no comprehensive plan of action to address the issue.
