DNA Chairman says successive governments have failed the Bahamian people

National Chairman of the Democratic National Alliance Omar Smith is calling on Bahamians to stand up against the arrival of nearly 90 Mexican workers who arrived in the country on Thursday for construction at Bakers Bay, in Abaco.

In a press statement, Smith said, “Bahamians it’s time to stand up. Stand up and fight for what is rightfully yours. Those jobs are Bahamian jobs that have been given to Mexican workers and families. At a time when thousands of Bahamians are without work, can we accept our government bringing in foreigners to work?”

Smith calls it shameful, that government has, “bow[ed] to the wishes of foreign entities over the interests of the Bahamian people. As if that was not bad enough, they have attempted to disparage, disrespect and disregard Bahamian workers in the process,” he said.

Smith said successive governments have adopted a policy of foreign entities over Bahamians.

“They pay only lip service to the slogans “the people’s time’ or in the PLP’s case “we believe in Bahamians,” Smith said.

Smith asked, “How long will we continue to be fooled by these two political entities that have shown us over and over again that they have no intention of ever putting Bahamians first? Will we continue to blindly follow them quietly like a lamb to the slaughter? When will we stand up? When will enough really be enough?”
