Nikoan Johnson operated his photography business for nearly four years, but since the national lockdown measures, business has come to a screeching halt.

“I think like many other creatives, it dried up the bulk of my income as a photographer.

“During the period the government relaxed the restrictions, there was an increase in bookings but quickly dried up when they announced a return to restrictions,” Johnson said of NikoanJohnsonPhotography.

The stay-at-home orders by Prime Minister Hubert Minnis affected photography businesses causing many photographers to cancel or postpone photo sessions, as non-essential businesses were shut down. But in the midst of uncertainty, many Bahamians have been forced to adapt and modify their businesses.

Adjusting?

Johnson said he adjusted his business model to sustain a level of income during the lockdown

“I’ve, however, been able to maintain some income in a niche area of my business doing graphic design for a restaurant as they were allowed to operate during the previous lockdown,” he said.

Looking Ahead

Johnson remains hopeful that his photography business will recover and life will get better.

“Looking forward, I just hope for a return to some semblance of normalcy that’ll breed consistency and allow people and businesses to comfortably make plans for the future.

“Luckily it’s shown the propensity to come back,” he said.
