The cancer patient caught the eye of a businessman who offered her a plane ride home from the Bahamas
A young Trinidadian cancer patient is expressing gratitude to the Bahamas government for allowing her to exit the border to return to her home country in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
34-year-old Krissa Bissoon who worked as a quantity surveyor in the Bahamas at a construction firm, left the country on Monday.
Bissoon, diagnosed with cervical cancer, lost her job in February of this year, and had no means to return home to Trinidad and Tobago.
She reached out to Trinidadian media and upon hearing her story, Trinidadian businessman and owner of Movie Towne Derek Chin, himself seeking medical assistance in Miami, offered her a plane ride home from the Bahamas.
Chin told T&T Guardian Media that he and his lawyer Hayden Gadsby contacted the relevant authorities to get Bissoon out of the Bahamas.
“We got in touch with Krissa on Thursday morning and she accepted the offer, so it was a lot of work from then to get organized,” Chin said.
Chin’s lawyer Hayden Gadsby said the bureaucracy got difficult over the weekend but the government of the Bahamas and the T&T government were accommodating.
Bissoon told Trinidadian media, “Mr. Chin’s lawyer, Mr Gadsby, who was instrumental in organizing the fine details of pick-up from the Bahamas for myself, left me feeling that there is still so much hope in the world.”
Both Bissoon and Chin were tested for Covid-19 before returning, and upon arrival in Trinidad and Tobago.
They are presently being monitored in a quarantine facility in their home country.
Bisson said she believes miracles still happen and is expected to begin radiation and chemotherapy at Saint James Medical Complex.
