Carl Bethel speaks on the EU’s apparent decision
Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Carl Bethel is indicating that the EU Commission is making a decision to blacklist the Bahamas.
In a press statement, Bethel said, “The Bahamas regrets the apparent decision of the EU Commission to signal an intention to add the Bahamas to a blacklist which the EU Parliament mandates that the Commission maintain.”
Bethel said the Bahamas has not received any advance notification or warning at any diplomatic level.
He said the Bahamas continues to maintain the highest standards in the fight against money laundering, terrorist financing and other identified risk.
The FATF’s visit to the Bahamas was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bethel said the Bahamas is committed to complying with “every internationally agreed standard of conduct.”
