Ministry of Education monitoring COVID-19 situation before exam announcements
The 2020 Bahamas Junior Certificate (BJC) and Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations will go on.
Despite the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) IGCSE examinations being cancelled, the Ministry of Education (MOE) advises that this does not affect the sitting of the 2020 BJC and BGCSE examinations.
Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) canceled its May/June 2020 sitting of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations across the world, due to the “uncertainty” of the COVID-19 pandemic, citing the safety of students and teachers worldwide.
As for the Bahamas, the MOE said it is currently closely monitoring the COVID19 situation in the country and plans to make announcements as the situation progresses.
Ministry officials said they plan to advise the general public of the new dates for all 2020 national examinations, stating that the safety and educational opportunities of all students are of paramount importance to the ministry.
Last week president of the Bahamas Union of Teachers Belinda Wilson said she awaited word from the ministry on the plan for the national exams.
A new date has yet to be set for the IGCSE exams.
