‘Why Lord?’: Family grieves woman killed in Abaco car crash

Friends of the 22-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son killed in a tragic car accident in Abaco are still shocked after their unexpected death.

“My sister and my nephew…Why Lord? An older sister of the mother posted on social media.

Michelleda Arius and her son Armani were driving north on Ernest Dean Highway early morning Tuesday when she swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle travelling in another direction, which subsequently collided with another vehicle.

Arius and Armani were seriously injured and were taken to the local clinic where they died.

“Sometimes we question God and ask why. He always has a plan for our life,” Bianca Cooper, a relative of the victims lamented.

“All we can do is cherish our loved ones, especially those that are still alive and keep the departed in our hearts.”

Now, the family and Arius’ boyfriend, Delano Demeritte are feeling the void left behind by their death.

Cooper said her prayers are with Demeritte.

Police did not state a cause for the accident.

‘A Bundle of Joy’: Family in Disbelief, Grieves Woman Killed in Car Crash

Friends and family of one of the country’s latest traffic fatalities were in disbelief when they learned of her sudden death.

Melissa Knowles was remembered as “a bundle of joy,” her sister Erica Russell mourned.

Knowles’ mother and siblings were devastated after she was killed last week Friday when her vehicle, a silver Nissan Cube traveling east, hit a GMC Canyon truck traveling south along Johnstone Avenue in the Stapledon Gardens area.

She was killed after 11 pm.

“Gone too soon Lila, still can’t believe this. When you step in the room, sis you we’re such a bundle of joy…Our family will never forget you sweetie pie,” Russell said in a social media post.

Knowles’ mother, Marva, was reportedly out of the country when her daughter died and learned of her demise when she returned.

The mother was overcome with grief after learning that her friend’s daughter was also killed in a car crash, earlier that day.

Phillipa Deveaux, heading east in a Daihatsu Mira, hit a flatbed truck traveling west on Prince Charles Drive, crushing the front end of her vehicle and smashing the windshield. She died instantly.

Knowles’ death occurred 8 hours after Deveaux’s death.

Knowles’ brother who is the pastor of Word Empowerment Church Deon Knowles called her “a beautiful angel that God sent and took away.”

The victims, identified as close cousins, died tragically when their Honda vehicle collided with a garbage truck on Gladstone Road during the early morning hours.

Police say it was around 5 am when the cousins were traveling south on the main thoroughfare when they drove into the waste truck which was traveling in the same direction.

Johnson said the pair was inseparable and had just visited a family at a local resort before the accident occurred.

“I’ll always remember you. You have been with me through my hardest times. I love you,” she said.

As police continue their investigation, many social media users questioned whether or not the rear of the garbage truck was lit, which could have caused the driver of the Honda to run into the truck.

It is not known if speed was a factor.
