‘My child is broken’: Family laments death of aviation worker in apparent romantic spat

Loved ones of the employee killed near Jet Aviation on Sunday morning are grieving his loss and are baffled after his death flooded the headlines on Father’s Day.

The shocking death has left his children devastated.

Kara Stubbs, the mother of one of Rolle’s 12-year-old son wept, “My child is broken…Oh God, I promise you (Rolle) I will be the best mother to your son.

“This is hard.”

A friend said she knew Rolle to be a good provider for his son and “indeed a role model.”

“Every day I hear he’s (the son) by his daddy or grammy. I just don’t understand how people can be so cruel. We really don’t know how these things affect children.”

Thirty-eight-year-old Geovani Rolle was near his place of employment where he worked as a ramp manager when a gunman in a white vehicle shot a barrage of bullets and killed the father of two shortly after his arrival around 6 am.

“Gio was a super, super quiet guy. He could walk in a room and walk out the next side and nobody ever sees him or hears him. So this happening to Gio is baffling to us,” one family member lamented.

The suspect believed to be a 25-year-old pilot, was arrested later at the domestic terminal at Sir Lynden Pindling Airport.

“Thank God my cousin didn’t die right away to tell them who shot him,” cousin Garnique Johnson said.

A witness to the arrest said the suspect sat casually in the terminal. He had no idea the man had killed someone.

“I watch them (police) grab the dude. He was sitting so casual like nothing happened,” Tavaris Smith said.

Witnesses snapped a photo of the suspect being arrested.

Social media users linked a woman to the incident who is believed to be connected to both the suspect and the victim.

Rolle’s niece Tyesha Johnson sought to set the record straight clarifying that the suspect and the wife were no longer a couple as perpetrated by some social media users in a rush to judgment.

“Him and that girl were separated for a long time. He had already had a new girl and he killed my uncle over foolishness. This whole thing just piss[es] me off.”

Police said they are still investigating the murder and have not yet concluded that it was a result of a conflict between lovers, as suggested.

“There are some things that we are not certain of. Based on the information that has been presented, we don’t want to make a judgment call that it’s domestic. That’s a possibility. I don’t want to say it isn’t. But I can’t say it’s factual at this time.”

Rolle was his parents’ only son and fathered two boys.

‘Loving, Sweetest, Selfless Being’: Plane Crash Victim Identified as Aleitheia Newbold, 22

The sister of the twenty-two-year-old woman killed in a plane crash on Sunday said she will remember her as the “most loving, sweetest and selfless being.”

Aleitheia Newbold was killed when a plane, she and seven others were on crashed in bushes after takeoff in Long Island.

Police said after the crash, they found the extensively damaged twin-engine plane two miles from the airport after it took off from Deadman’s Cay after 9 am.

The other passengers onboard the PA-31-310 plane, sustained injuries, but Newbold died on the scene. With the assistance of the United States Coast Guard, the injured passengers were airlifted to New Providence around 1:30 pm for medical assistance.

Newbold’s sister said she wished she had called Newbold which may have discouraged her from taking the flight.

“Why couldn’t I be a big sister today like I always was to you. Why didn’t I call you this morning? Why couldn’t I have avoided this whole thing from happening by simply calling you as I would?”

Her sister said she is “broken, confused and hurt” since her death.

“Never in a million years…would I dream, think, imagine [or] believe that you would be leaving me so soon.”

After news of her death circulated on social media, Newbold’s boyfriend, Tevin Newbold, with whom she shares a child, showed up at the airport and was informed of her death.  He took to social media to express his disbelief.

“Had to check the ambulance and helicopter myself to find out if it’s really you. They [were] right. You [are] gone forever.”

Newbold’s sister says she will cherish the baby left behind. “Thank you for leaving such a beautiful gem here with me because you knew we’d need her to comfort us in your absence. You made it extra special by having me choose her name. Don’t even worry about her because she’s in the best hands.”

The daughters of Works Minister Alfred Sears and Motivational Speaker and Talk Show Host Spence Finlayson were also passengers on the plane.

Later on Sunday evening, Acting Director in the Department of Meteorology Jefferey Simmons said bad weather did not play a role in the crash.

The Civil Aviation Authority continues its investigations.

Turnquest Denies Fraud Allegations

Deputy Prime Minister Peter Turnquest denied claims of a writ filed in the Supreme Court, suggesting that he played a part in defrauding an aviation company.

In an article, Eye Witness News claimed that Turnquest and Sky Bahamas Principal Randy Butler defrauded Alpha Aviation and Advanced Aviation Ltd of nearly $30,000,000.

Though Turnquest is not named as a defendant in the writ, he was reported to be director and manager of Sky Bahamas and Aviation Oversight which was owned by Butler.

The defendants are listed as Randy Butler, Sky Bahamas Airlines and Aviation Oversight Group Ltd.

What does DPM Turnquest say about the allegations?

  • Turnquest says he is “aware” of the writ filed in the Supreme Court involving two former business associates.
  • He makes it clear that he is not named as a defendant.
  • Turnquest says the “several allegations” are “categorically false.”
  • He says, “I deny the false claims. I am appalled that my standing as a public servant made calling my name in this dispute between two former business partners worthwhile. There is no room for that kind of misuse of our judicial system in our society. I am confident that the facts will defend my integrity once presented.”

What are the allegations in the court document?

  • On December 31st, the defendants caused Alpha to pay a total of $20,680,337.33 to Sky Bahamas.
  • As of December 31st, the defendants had dishonestly caused Alpha to pay $3,026,000 to themselves via a company.
  • Between February 2008 and July 2016, the defendants caused Alpha to pay to Aviation Oversight by means of 39 fraudulent invoices, to pay to Aviation Oversight, 37 cheques, and to Sky Bahamas two cheques totaling a sum of $3,800,000.
  • As of December 31st, the defendants caused Advanced to pay wire transfers totaling $5,916,587.67 to Sky Bahamas.
  • It is further alleged that as of December 2017, the defendants had caused Alpha to pay $3,026,000 to themselves via a company controlled by AOG Maintenance Ltd.
  • The plaintiffs also claim that between February 2008 and July 2016, the defendants caused Alpha by some 36 fraudulent invoices and book entries to pay away to Aviation Oversight $3,800,000.
  • The plaintiffs claim that Turnquest and Butler failed to keep adequate financial accounts documenting the companies’ financial transactions and failed to put in place an adequate financial system.
