An American Airlines flight headed to the Bahamas from Charlotte, North Carolina, was delayed on Monday when teenage passengers refused to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.
According to WCNC, flight 893 was scheduled to leave the Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Monday for Nassau, when a group of high school students coming to celebrate their recent graduation in the Bahamas became disruptive and non-compliant with the mask mandate.
Crew members could not continue the flight and the aircraft was placed on an “extended delay.”
An American Airlines spokesperson told WCNC, “Per procedure, the customers involved were asked to exit the aircraft. We expect our customers to comply with our policies when they choose to fly with us, and we take action when that is not the case.”
The airline said it repeated its face-covering protocol to the group of teenagers several times who refused to adhere.
American Airlines said the group later agreed to comply with the mask mandate if they are permitted to travel on another flight. The group with other passengers will be expected to arrive in Nassau on Tuesday at 9:30 in the morning.
All passengers were provided with meal vouchers and hotel rooms for the extended delay.
