He says Bahamians are not taking COVID19 preventative measures seriously

Prime Minister Hubert Minnis announced a complete lockdown of the country, which begins at 8pm Friday evening.

Dr. Minnis said a complete shutdown of all services begins tonight and ends Monday at 5 am.

The exemptions are hospitals, hotels with guest, the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Royal Bahamas Defence Force, security companies and Bahamas Power and Light and the Water and Sewerage Corporation.

He emphasized that ferries will not operate during this time.

Dr. Minnis said Bahamians seem not to be taking the emergency order seriously as many people are still leaving home.

He emphasized the importance of physical distancing, and said police are stationed at hotspot areas to ensure the order is adhered to.

According to the prime minister, the opposition party has agreed with the necessary measures as the restrictions are “absolutely necessary.”

He again pleaded with residents to stay home, “if you want to live.”

He continued, “If you choose to die, don’t take others with you, as this virus is harmful and does not discriminate.”

The House of Assembly is expected to meet Monday morning at 10, to debate the action plan going forward.
